One-Line Bio

I am a full-time professional woodworker

Biography

I live in beautiful central New Hampshire at the base of the White Mountains. I specialize in hand crafting 17th and 18th century antique reproduction furniture. My interest in this kind of furniture started many years ago, prior to my move from Alaska to New England. As I built my own home in Alaska, I found myself needing kitchen cupboards. I bought some wood and a table saw and started cutting! I found that I enjoyed it very much and began to take on other projects as a way to “fund” my hobby. Word got around and I got quite a bit of practice during the long-cold winters, which I had off from my job as a professional fishing guide. My Dad was a big help to me in those early years as we discussed every cut and measurement. He is a skilled luthier (guitar maker) and I have watched him work in the shop on any number of projects all my life.

With a bit of experience under my belt, I loaded up my family and headed for New Hampshire in 1999 to become a full-time custom woodworker. After a few years of a wide variety of projects including designing and building custom kitchens, bookcases, and various pieces of furniture, I found my niche and interest in 17th and 18th century period furniture. The wood, joinery and techniques that the furniture masters of that era used really inspire me. And there is no lack of wonderful pieces to emulate! I hand-cut all my dovetails, which is a time-consuming process, but I consider it imperative to creating a piece that will endure for generations. I also use pegged mortise and tenon joints for the same reason. My goal in creating a piece of furniture is to create a future heirloom

I spend my days in my workshop in my Campton home creating antique reproductions and adaptations thereof. I use primarily tiger maple and cherry, most usually procured locally. I take steps at each level to assure a quality heirloom that will endure for generations. Whether it’s hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joinery, or a quality durable finish, each piece is carefully crafted to last and be a treasured addition to your family history.

I also have a small showroom at my home on Route 3 in Campton, NH where you can see my furniture and we can sit down and discuss the details of what you are looking for. Otherwise, I am very comfortable with working through phone and emails and delivering most anywhere in the country.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Eric
